Il Covolo, la Valle delle Sfingi and malghe di Velo Veronese

A simple trekking tour between Velo's pastures following popular artistic tracks.

Itinerary description

Eastern Lessinia in Velo veronese is full of peculiarities of Parco Naturale Regionale of Lessinia such as Covolo di Camposilvano and Valle delle Sfingi. The itinerary starts with the museum where there are a lot of fossils mainly found in Lessinia; the museum, today small centre dedicated of Attilio Benetti, was built by him during '70s, to show the finds, which during his searching activity were found in others Lessinia villages; the visit ends with the small path, which leads you on the cavity of Covolo, enormous cavern with semi-vertical entrance.

After the interesting tour you will go towards the main residential area of Camposilvano, going toward Parpari, to go on right on the dirty road, where you could see a "mushroom", which represents the beginning of Valle delle Sfingi; this is a valley, which is from Northeast to Southwest where there are many rock monoliths with a strange shape, following an erosion of many atmospheric agents.

After that you will go on behind malga Buse until a stele, which remember a sad event of a girl's death. Exited to a clearing you will go towards malga Buse di sopra. After some meters you will find the back of Sengio Rosso, with his Croce dei Norderi. From here the street climbs down and during clear day you could see colli euganei. Before Azzarino di Velo you will stop at Rifugio Lausen to eat and drink something; going on you will reach Battisteri, Pezzo and Tecchie, and you will follow sentiero CAI 251, which go until Croce del Gal sulla Via Cara.

Keep going you will reach another cross, Kuneck, and after some meters from here you will reach the point of departure.
